This is a montlhly art drawing contest for kids and students. Children and teens, draw and color this armadillo in the first block using your imagination and creativity. We will put your finished work on this page with your first name only so you can show off your work to your friends. The best entry for each month (in my own personal opinion) will receive some cool acrylic paints and paint brushes perfect for creating your own original painted works of art. There is no charge to enter this art contest, but it is for school age kids only (K-12). We will be hosting more Texas wildlife art contests so come back often to enter for prizes and art-related giveaways. Before you start coloring, be sure and check out the Six Odd Facts about Armadillos below. Now, let's "git-r-done!"
E-mail us a jpeg file scanned at 72 dpi of your artwork to LGLemonsArtist@aol.com or mail your original artwork (no larger than 8 1/2" x 11") to us at:

Six Odd Facts About Armadillos
1. Not Large Roly Polies - Contrary to what cartoons would have us believe, only one of 21 different varieties of armadillos can roll itself into a ball. Most armadillos have nine bands surrounding their mid section, making it quite hard to fold up that tightly. The sole roly poly armadillo only has three bands.
2. Born as Quadruplets - You thought you had it bad with your older brother or sister picking on your from time to time, think about having three more brothers or sisters just like you competing for your parents' attention. Armadillo babies are always born in sets of four; the same gender, and are genetically the same.
3. Herd'em Up - Armadillos are considered livestock in Montana and the same rules apply to these mammals as if you owned a dude ranch full of cows and steer.
4. Big Enough to Ride - Well, maybe not for an average sized person, but one breed of Armadillo grows to as large as three feet in length. Dubbed the "Giant Armadillo," this critter is a good half a foot longer than a full grown average adult. 'dillo.
5. Ant-Kissin' & Tree Climbin' Cousins- Anteaters and the three-toed tree climbing sloth belong to the Xenarthra(Latin) order as well, which means the Armadillo is their cousin. Consequently, ants make up a large portion of an armadillo's diet. I can imagine the pot luck table is like at their family reunions.
6. Scubadillos - These little armored creatures have an amazing ability to hold their breath underwater for 4 - 6 minutes and are quite good at dog paddling. They inflate their stomachs with air in warm water so their bulky exterior doesn't make them sink like a rock.
