A Day with a Real Texas Artist

School Administrators, Art Teachers, Texas History Teachers, PTA, Civic Clubs, Church Groups, Art Groups, and Parents!

I have developed an entertaining and educational program combining my love of art with my love of Texas history entitled:

"A Day with a Real Texas Artist."

The program can be presented at my studio in Nocona, Texas, or at your location and is designed to inspire and motivate folks from all walks of life to explore and develop their artistic skills while learning a little more about the great state of Texas.

"A Day with a Real Texas Artist" will

  • Enhance an Ongoing Art Program
  • Teach Texas History Illustrated with Original Art
  • Motivate and Inspire
  • Entertain and Educate

I will work with your group for 1 hour, 1/2 day, one full day, or longer.

The presentation will be custom tailored to your specific group's interest and time restrictions and may include any or all of the following:

  • an exhibit of selected pieces of my own personal artworks including original oil paintings, limited edition prints, sketchbooks, colored pencil drawings - This exhibit will get immediate attention and will be used as reference for the remainder of the presentation.
  • a short review of how I got started as an artist specializing in Texas themed subjects tied in with choosing subject matter and creating different art styles
  • a discussion of useful tools for drawing and painting and examples of each
  • an emphasis on using your "imagination" to create art
  • a drawing or oil painting demonstration (age appropriate)
  • a directed "hands on" drawing (or painting) session using the grid method to draw some of the same subjects as in my own artworks
  • interesting snippets and unusual facts about Texas and the things associated with Texas woven into the discussions and demonstrations
  • ******unveiling of a commissioned artwork (by pre-arrangement, see details below)
  • and more as time permits!

The "A Day with a Real Texas Artist" program is suitable for all ages from Kindergarten through adult, including schools, social and civic clubs, church groups, and artist groups. The presentation will be adjusted to meet your group's particular needs regarding age, experience, interest in art, and time limits. For older groups (high school age through adult) a Powerpoint presentation may also be included (if you have the hardware/software capabilities).

As a former career professional Master Craftsman photographer, I presented educational programs in Lubbock, Kerrville, Austin, Tyler, Dallas, Ft.Worth, Salado, Wichita Falls, and Tulsaa and Oklahoma City. Though I currently do not have quite as extensive experience in speaking about and demonstrating my art, to date, I have made art presentations to the following groups:

  • Chisholm Trail Artist Association (Montague County artists group)
  • Wise County Art Association
  • Gainesville Area Visual Artists
  • Nocona and Stephenville Rotary Clubs
  • Nocona Thursday Literary Club
  • Nocona Maids and Matrons Club
  • North Central Texas College, Gainesville - Gabrielle Fletcher, Art Department Chair, Texas Artist Lecture Series
  • Lindsay ISD - Rosanna Webb, Librarian, Mentor of the Month program
  • Wells Elementary, Plano - Janet Hirunrusme, Artist/Art Teacher, National Arts Week
  • First Baptist Church, New Boston, Senior Adult group "Mystery Trip"

(You are welcome to contact any of these groups and get their evaluation of my abilities before you contact me.)

What others are saying about our program (and our art):

Mr. Lemons is such a kind and respectful presenter. The kids responded beautifully to his gentle demeanor. He spoke about the path that lead him to create specific works of art as well as his own artistic journey. Students were encouraged to value art and to think about the responses art brings about in people. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with Mr. Lemons and would welcome him back at any time.

-Rosanna Webb, Librarian, Lindsay ISD

The students really enjoyed your visit and have been talking about their drawings all week. They keep bringing up points that you made in your discussion with them Each of them had a favorite artwork, especially the fifth graders. . . . . . I really liked what you did with the students. . . . . . I liked the background you gave about the various animals. . . . The teachers said the students have been talking about your visit, so I know it was a great success. . . . . Thank you for spending your time at Wells. You helped make our Celebration of Arts Week a great success!

-Janet Hirunrusme, Artist/Art Teacher, Wells Elementary

You've definitely carved out a niche for yourself in the style you've chosen. And I'm glad that you are so passionate about getting the kids involved in art. I'm sure it will make a difference in their lives . . .

What it will cost:

My current professional fee is $250 per day (up to 8 hours) or $150 per half day (up to 4 hours). The program may be presented at my art studio in Nocona, Texas, or I will come to your location. (If I come to your location, a mileage charge of 40 cents per mile, round trip will be added based on shortest distance as determined by www.mapquest.com to help defray direct expenses for fuel costs and travel time away from my art studio in Nocona.) This fee + mileage is due by the end of the presentation.

Short programs (2 hours or less) are available @ $50 per hour + mileage (may not be booked more than 60 days in advance).

(Terms and fees are subject to periodic review and may be adjusted, as necessary, due to increases in costs beyond our control such as fuel, food, lodging, etc.)

For Schools Only -

An opportunity to reduce or eliminate my professional fee:

(This portion of our program is in the testing stages and is subject to review, change, and/or elimination without prior notice. We want it to work for everyone involved. If it doesn't, it will be changed or discontinued, as necessary.)

Simply pass out order forms to your students for my art products (T-shirts, sketchbooks, etc.) and take orders for these products. With retail orders totaling $400 or more, I will credit $1 for each $4 in art product orders received toward the reduction or elimination of my professional fee when turned in within 10-14 days after my presentation. A reimbursement check will be issued to the sponsoring organization upon the completion and delivery of purchased art products. The check could equal to but will not exceed the total amount of my professional fee, regardless of total sales and does not apply to the added mileage charge.

(Example: Total sales of $400 would result in a $100 reimbursement. Total sales of $1000 would result in a $250 reimbursement. Total sales of $1001 or more would still result in a $250 reimbursement. Total sales of less than $400 will not qualify for any reimbursements.) Remember, this program is not designed as a "fundraiser" per se. It is intended to be entertaining and educational and inspirational at a reasonable cost to the sponsoring organization. An exceptional response from the students through purchases of our art products makes it possible for us to reduce or eliminate our usual fees.

Your school is under no obligation to participate in this segement of our program. You may simply opt to pay the professional fee (+ mileage) and enjoy and learn from the presentation.

*****For Church Groups (and possibly others) -

An opportunity to eliminate my professional fee:

This is a great idea for a road trip for Senior or Young Adults. Bring your group to our studio for our art presentation and you may eliminate our professional fee entirely. Simply commission us, well in advance, to paint an original oil painting in 16x20, or larger, for your church in our style of Texas art. After our art presentation, we'll unveil the original painting for your group to take back with them. We can arrange for reproducing the same image on gift size note cards for each member of the group, as well. We can also arrange for lunch or dinner reservations at one of our fine eateries and possibly a factory tour, as your schedule permits. The possibilities are endless and we welcome your suggestions to make a trip to our studio a memorable experience for your church group.

Dates are limited!

Due to my schedule as both a full time artist and a part-time art teacher, I am limited in the number of days each year that I am available to make these art presentations. Contact me now to schedule a date for your group as far in advance as possible.

If you have more questions or wish to reserve your date, please e-mail: LGLemonsArtist@aol.com
